The ingredient list in a recipe will always tell you how much soy sauce to use. But what if you decide to be creative and make up your own recipes? How do you know how much soy sauce to use – whether you’re working with an ingredient list or not?
We’re going to explain how to achieve the best results by using the right quantities of Kikkoman Soy Sauce when you’re cooking, marinating, glazing or seasoning.
Soy sauce is a great seasoning because it adds a special, full-bodied flavour to meat, fish, sauces and vegetables – and not just in Asian dishes! Why’s that? Because soy sauce is rich in umami and an ideal substitute for salt.

SOY SAUCE FOR MARINADES
Soy sauce is a great base flavour in all kinds of marinades for meat, fish or vegetables.
When you’re making your own marinade, use around 3 to 4 tablespoons of soy sauce for each portion (approx. 120 to 150g), plus the other ingredients and seasonings. Just remember that the ratio of soy sauce to other liquid ingredients should be around 2:1.
If you’re looking for a ready-made soy sauce marinade, look no further than our range of Teriyaki sauces. They come in a variety of flavours: from roasted garlic to honey and toasted sesame. When you marinate barbecue foods, scrape off the herbs and spices and dab the foods dry before cooking them to prevent any burnt bits.
